So you're going to have a Halloween Party?
Checklist:

* Music
* Games
* Decorations
* Scary Movies
* Candy for trick or treaters
* Halloween treats
* Invitations
* Gifts for your guests
* Costume
Music
This is a very important part of your Halloween
party planning. You could buy a spooky sound
effects tape or CD, or for a more festive
atmosphere, play Halloween songs like "Haunted
Halloween", or the "Monster Mash". It's a good idea
to have the music playing when the guests arrive to
put them in the Halloween Spirit.
Games
Games are not just for kids! You could host a
Halloween Scavenger Hunt or even Musical Chairs.
You could award prizes to those who win the
games. Candy, or some type of Halloween gizmo
(like a singing Frankenstein) would be cool prizes.
For kids, candy is a must, but a stuffed Halloween
Kitty Cat or Monster would work too.
Decorations
Decorating your house is a must for having a
Halloween party! For more tips on what you could
do, check out our Halloween Crafts page.
Scary Movies
Going to air a couple of spooky favs? Make sure
that movies are age appropriate. In other words,
playing Halloween or A Nightmare on Elm Street
probably isn't a good idea for kids under 10.
Instead go for Hocus Pocus or Ernest Scared
Stupid.
Halloween Treats
A part of the party that takes a bit more time, is
preparing the food that your guests will eat. You
could serve pizza, chips and salsa, and that would
be okay, but why not try a few of these. Want to
have Hot Wings? Perfectly acceptable, but call
them Bloody Bat Wings. Kids will gobble them up.
Bake cookies, and before you serve them,
decorate their tops with icing. Draw a simple
witches hat, or write Happy Halloween. Jello for
kids? Add canned grapes (from fruit cocktail) and
call them eyeballs. For more recipes, check out
our recipes page.
Trick or Treat Candy
One word. Chocolate. If not, then load up on the
bubble gum. Toothpaste is an interesting idea
(*gag*) but your house might get egged.
Invitations
Now that so many people have computers, and
most people have developed at least a moderate
sense of design, creating your own invitations
would be easy. When you do invite your guests,
be sure to tell them whether or not your party will
be a costume party. And if you plan on playing
any party games, let them know that too. That
way, nobody will be just standing around, not
knowing what to do.
Gifts for your Guests
A nice way of thanking your guests for coming to
your party, would be to give them a gift as they
leave. By no means does this gift need to be
expensive! It could be as simple as a small paper
sack filled with a few extra candies. Or, you
could buy pumpkin shaped trick or treat pails, and
fill them for your guests. It would be a nice
gesture, and hopefully you'll get a thank you card
out of it.
Costume
This is probably the most important part of your
party, second only to the decorations. What are
you going to wear? A Witch is a classic costume,
as is a Vampire, Zombie or lately, Bob the Builder.
If you're throwing a kids party, try dressing as a
"pretty witch," or something else that won't scare
the little guys.
